Lets face it most pop songs are about love or variations of love. Young love, unrequited love, physical love or just love of ones self (Yes I am looking at you Mr West). With so many love songs out there I have chosen my favorites. Remember kids use music not to get into a girls pants but use it to get into her head!!!
Air – All I need (feat Beth Hirsch)
When I first head this track on Air’s Moon Safari album it didn’t really sink in. It was good but lacked something. However once I saw the video it all made sense. It connected on such a different level. Look out for a cameo from the Air boys…. No spoilers.
Bright Eyes – First Day of my Life
Again an excellent video but what draws me to this track it’s simplicity. There is very little to distract you from the lyrics which lay at the core of it’s beauty. It’s not over complicated about the story of love between what I presume is two people.
Dire Straits – Romeo and Juliet
Yes that’s right it’s Dire Straits. I grew up listening to them (it was the 80’s). My entry point being a small CD called Brothers In Arms. Not sure it did that well but the early stuff like Sultans of Swing and this excellent classic really show how good they were before they became uncool. “I can’t do a love song like the way it’s meant be… I can’t do anything except be in love with you”
Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds – Into My Arms
This is the most recent addition to my love collection… Ok that sounded a little creepy and a bit Barry White. As you might realise again it’s simple song with emphasis on the lyrics not the tune and for good reason. Here he’s willing to change his view on the world because his partner does. “I don’t believe in the existence of angels But looking at you I wonder if that’s true”
